Reducing accidents – statistics

According to The European Agency for Safety and Health at Work ( EU-OSHA) statistics, slips, trips and falls accounted for 23% of all non-fatal workplace accidents in the European Union in 2017.

In addition, the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) has identified slips, trips and falls as a significant safety hazard in the maritime industry. EMSA noted that wet or slippery deck surfaces can increase the risk of accidents particularly in bad weather conditions.

Organisations found to be lacking in providing safety measures on deck surfaces, may face legal and financial consequences as well as damage to their reputation and business operations. This liability can take several forms, depending on the specific circumstances of the case.

  • Negligence – If the company failed to take reasonable steps to ensure the safety of its employees or visitors, it may be liable.  This may include failings to provide:
    • Adequate lighting
    • Maintain a safe deck surface
    • Install slip-resistant materials on surfaces where there is a high foot traffic
  • Premises Liability –  Companies have a duty to maintain their premises in a reasonably safe condition for employees, customers and visitors. If the company knew or should have known about a hazardous condition on the deck surface and failed to take steps to correct it or warn people of the hazard, a premises liability lawsuit might follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you can´t find the answer you are looking for here, please contact us.

How do I install deck strips?

Please view our installation guide for deck strips here.

Our strips are non-load bearing and are pre-fabricated for a quick and easy installation on existing substrates including concrete, metal and fiberglass, steel, composite grating, wood and tile.

If you need help in finding the best solution, please contact us. Also, visit our Youtube channel where you can subscribe and also view more safety product videos.

How do I maintain and clean anti-slip deck strips?

Regular cleaning keeps the deck strips free of debris and looking new. Most household methods are suitable. Detergents and mild degreasers work well too – provided that they are diluted with water and immediately hosed off with water. For stubborn deposits on the strips, use a stiff bristle brush. High pressure heated water (660 psi, as used in food processing plants) may be used in industrial environments.

How long do GRP desk strips last?

A minimum of ten years.

How much does deck strips cost?

This depends on the size of the project and requirements. Please contact us for a price.

Is it a sustainable product?

The sustainability of GRP deck strips depends on several factors such as the manufacturing process, transportation, and end-of-life disposal. However, these are durable and long-lasting safety solutions, which reduces the need for frequent replacement.

When installed correctly, the solution lasts for many years, reducing the need for frequent maintenance and repair. Finally, when it comes to end-life disposal, our anti-slip grp decking strips can be recycled or reused, which reduces waste and conserves resources.

Why are anti-slip deck strips important?

They are an ideal solution to securing slippery surfaces – especially decks, wooden terraces etc.

What materials are used to make deck strips?

View our Deck-Strips-Datasheet for more technical details.

Our anti-slip deck strips are made from fibreglass-reinforced polymer (FRP), which is a strong and durable material that is resistant to water, chemicals, UV rays and corrosion making them an ideal choice to improve safety – even in harsh environments.

We have encapsulated aluminum oxide grits into the surface of the glass fibre to provide optimum friction. Furthermore, the hardness of aluminium oxide integrated into the top surface of the sheets, makes them impossible to wear down.

The slip resistance level of Real Safety’s solutions are all classified with the highest score of R13.

  • Standard size of our deck strips (width x length): 50 or 100mm x 1200mm

    • 100mm: Brown/RAL 8011, Black/RAL 9011 and Yellow/RAL 1003
How do I choose the right deck strips?

When choosing the right anti slip deck strip for a particular surface, there are several surface factors to consider:

  • Choosing the right material
  • Identifying the texture and slip resistance rating
  • Determining the size and color
  • Installation method
  • Assessment of the surrounding environment
